Chazy Fire responded to a 2
car MVA and the intersection
of Route 22 and Fisk Road
Wednesday morning. A vehicle
heading towards chazy on the
fisk road pulled out in
front of a truck
heading south on route 22.
There was minor damage to
both vehicles. CVPH EMS was
on scene to evaluate all
occupants of the vehicles.
No injuries were reported.
The debris was picked up
from the roadway and
volunteers were back in
service.

Volunteers responded to a
car into a barn Tuesday
afternoon in Chazy. A
Chazy woman suffered a
medical condition behind the
wheel of her car and drove
into a barn at North Country
Livestock Exchange, killing
several calves. Chazy units
were on scene while the West
Chazy Fire Dept stood by in
station for possible
response to Chazy.

- West Chazy volunteers responded to a
reported 1 car roll over at the corner
of Slosson Road and Fisk Road
intersections Sunday morning. Engine
331 responded to the scene to find the
vehicle upside down in a pasture and
the driver out walking around. The
driver did not have any complaints
upon ems evaluation and was signed off
at the scene. Racine's towing was
called in and volunteers were back in
service.

West Chazy. Downpours, wind, and 1"

Firefighters were toned out
for mutual aid to a motel
fire at the Stonehelm Motel
in Beekmantown Monday.
Firefighters from
Beekmantown, Altona,
Cadyville, Champlain, Chazy,
Cumberland Head, Dannemora,
District 3, Keeseville,
Morrisonville, Peru, Mooers,
South Plattsburgh and West
Chazy fire departments
responded to the 1:15 am
blaze. The cause of the
fire, which started in one
of the rooms is still being
investigated. The Whole east
wing and some of the office
space were destroyed.

Beekmantown, NY-
Firefighters are trying to
determine what sparked a
blaze that destroyed a
home in in Beekmantown
Monday night. Firefighters
say flames immediately
shot out of the Manor
Drive home when they
arrived and opened the
front door. They believe
the fire started in a back
bedroom but at this time
they're not sure how.
About 30 firefighters from
Beekmantown, District 3,
West
Chazy, Chazy,
Cumberland Head and
Morrisonville worked
together to knock down the
flames, while firefighters
from South Plattsburgh
assisted by filling air
bottles, Trombley said.
The home is a complete
loss.

Chazy Vol. Fire Dept
personnel responded to
623 Slosson Road
Wednesday evening for a
car/pedestrian accident.
Ems 333 and Squad 334
arrived on scene to find
a lawn mower sitting in
the middle of the
roadway. Bystanders
state the operator of
the lawn mower pulled
out in front of a mail
contractor truck
bouncing of the front
wheel. The patient was
transported to CVPH
medical center by CVPH
EMS with a minor leg
injury. The driver of
the mail truck was
uninjured. Firefighters
were back in service
shortly after.
West Chazy, NY- Clinton
County 911 Dispatched the WCFD to an unknown fire at
the corner of O'Neil road
and Atwood Road in West
Chazy 9:50pm Friday night.
Tanker 332 and Brush truck
334 responded to the area
and found a large garbage
pile burning at the Deno
Sugar House. Section 215
of the NYS Dec
Environmental Conservation
Law now prohibits
the burning of household
trash in burn barrels or
piles. Open
burning of household trash
releases dangerous
compounds including
arsenic, carbon monoxide,
benzene, styrene,
formaldehyde, lead,
hydrogen cyanide and
dioxin, among others. Open
burning is also the single
greatest cause of
wildfires in New York.
The fire was extinguished
and the Scene was turned
over to Clinton County
Sheriffs office and the
NYS police.
Volunteers were back in
service around 10:45pm

Emergency services
personnel, fire
departments and
law-enforcement agencies
were busy Wednesday night
dealing with a slew of
issues caused by the
fierce thunderstorm that
moved through the area.
The West Chazy Fire Dept
responded to trees down
across the road way and
power lines arcing.
No serious outages or
problems were reported in
the area.

West Chazy, NY- The
West Chazy Vol. Fire
Dept responded with Pumper
331,Squad 334, and Tankers
332 and 336 to a shed
fire at the Jeff Deno
residence thursday
afternoon. A motorist
driving by notice flames
shooting from the shed
roof and notified the home
residents. Firefighters
were on scene in seconds
as they were already at
the station preparing for
their monthly meeting.
When firefighters arrived
flames were roaring from a
outdoor wood bolier.
Firefighters had a quick
nock down and the
structure was saved.

Chazy Vol. Fire Dept
personnel responded to 161
Harvey Road Wednesday
Night for a fully involved
house fire. Pumper 331,
Tankers 332 and 336, Squad
334 responded with help
from Beekmantown, Chazy,
District 3 , Altona,
Cumberland Head,
Champlain, and Mooers fire
Depts. The home suffered
severe fire damage. No one
was at home at the time
and there were no
reported injuries. Fire
Dept personnel returned
early Thursday morning for
a rekindle. The home is a
total loss. Investigators
were on scene trying to
find the cause and
origin.
West Chazy, NY -
Volunteers from the West Chazy
Fire Dept responded to a 1 car
accident 5am Sunday morning. The
driver was heading northbound on
state route 190 north of the
recore road when lost control
and crashed into the guard
rails. The female driver was
transported to cvph by CVPH EMS
where she is being treated for
non life threatening injuries.

Chazy, NY- The West
Chazy Vol. Fire Dept responded with
Pumper 331,Squad
334, and Tanker 336 to a
reported structure fire at
Sample's Lawn and Garden. When
firefighters arrived the second
story apartment was filled with
smoke. Firefighters searched and
found the fire to be in back of
the stove. The stove was taken
out and the fire damage was contained to the
walls surrounding the stove. The
apartment suffered minimal
damage.
3/7/10 WCFD responded to
reported garage fire on the
slosson road Sunday afternoon.
Upon firefighters arrival
the garage was not on fire but a
burn barrel that caught a pile
of tires on fire was the cause.
We remind all homeowners that
the new state law prohibits the
use of burn barrels and enforced
by the NYS DEC.

Beekmantown NY - The West
Chazy Vol. Fire Dept
responded with Tanker 332,Squad
334, and Tanker 336 to a
fully involved structure fire at
384 Jersey Swamp Road Wednesday
morning. Beekmantown Fire,
District 3 fire, West Chazy Fire
and Morrisonville Fire were
toned out mutual aide. Fire
Damage was contained to the top
few bedrooms but the whole house
suffered water damage. Both dogs
were located unharmed.
Scene was turned over to Fire
Investigators and State Police.
Amanda’s Law which takes effect
on February 22, 2010 was passed
in the 2009 Session of the New
York State Legislature, that
establishes a new requirement
for installation of carbon
monoxide detectors in homes.
Under the law, one-family homes,
two-family homes, dwellings
located in condominiums or
cooperatives, and multiple
dwellings must have a carbon
monoxide detector installed
regardless of the date of
construction or sale.
2/11/10 The West Chazy
Fire Dept responded to 131
Sugerbush drive for a
reported chimney fire.
Firefighters were on scene
in minutes and found the
house filling with smoke
from a faulty furnace. The
furnace was adjusted and
the smoke ejector was used
to clear the house of
smoke. Engine 331 and 334
were shortly back in

WEST CHAZY — A
Plattsburgh woman was
injured in a Route 22
accident Saturday
morning. According to
Chazy-based State
Police, Cheryl E. Monty,
55, of Plattsburgh was
north on Roue 22 when
she tried to turn left
into the parking lot at
Wilson Farms and
collided with a
southbound pickup truck
driven by Darrel L.
Spoor Jr., 25, of Mooers.
Monty complained of
facial pain and was
transported to CVPH
Medical Center, where
she was treated and
later released Saturday
afternoon. Spoor was not
injured.
Monty was ticketed for
failure to yield the
right of way and driving
an uninspected vehicle.
8/11/09 2 Car MVA
West
Chazy, NY-- West Chazy Volunteers
responded to a 2 car MVA in front
of Gumas Restaurant Tuesday
morning. At least 4 were
transported to CVPH for non life
threatening injuries. CVPH Ems and
Morrisonville EMS also transported
from the scene. While enroute back
to station volunteers were flagged
down to assist in rescuing a puppy
trapped underneath a shed. 10
minutes and a 3 1/2 ton floor jack
and the puppy was out safe and
sound.

-- West Chazy Volunteers
responded to a reported structure
fire across 7493 Route 22 Sunday
night. Upon arrival flames were
seen shooting out of a basement
window. Chief Lucia used 2 dry
chemical extinguishers to control
the flames until the first unit
arrived on scene. West Chazy
Units 331, 332,334, and 336 were
on scene until approx 11:00 pm
while investigators determined the
cause and origin. West Chazy
received mutual aid from
Beekmantown, Chazy and Mooers at
the scene. Champlain, District 3,
Altona and Cumberland Head fire
depts. were toned out to stand by.
April 30, 2009 Volunteer fire
departments in our area and across
New York state need more
volunteers, but the necessary
commitment, the training
requirements and people's lack of
available time deter many from
joining the departments.Clearly,
more incentives would help fire
companies attract volunteers. U.S.
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.,
earlier this month announced a
proposal for a new incentive.

the NYSAFC Spring 2009 Seminar
Series “Routine Responses –
Safety & Tactics” With
Battalion Chief Frank C. Montagna,
FDNY. FRANK C. MONTAGNA, a 33-year
veteran of the fire service and the
commander of Battalion 58, has been
a battalion chief with FDNY for 16
years. He was an instructor at the
FDNY Probationary Firefighters
School, the officer in command of
the FDNY Chauffeur Training School,
and an adjunct lecturer at John Jay
College in New York City.

Personal-injury accident
West Chazy, NY — A West Chazy
resident was taken to the hospital
after he crashed into a tree
Wednesday afternoon.
Plattsburgh-based State Police said
Joseph Yelle was driving down Atwood
Road around 2:20 p.m. when he lost
control of his vehicle as it rounded
a bend in the roadway.
The 21-year-old later told police a
steering malfunction caused him to
drive off the road.
He complained of various injuries
after the accident and was brought
to CVPH Medical Center, where he was
treated and later released.
Police said no tickets were issued

--
West Chazy Firefighters were called
out to a Hazardous materials
situation on Westwood Drive shortly
after 8pm Friday night. A
resident of the house ,while house
cleaning, mixed a few different
cleaning chemicals causing a
hazardous odor. The odor was strong
enough to be carried to an adjacent
house. Firefighters arrived wearing
Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
and exhaust fans to get rid of the
strong odor. Trucks 333, 334, and
336 responded along with mutual aid
from Mooers for their air truck. The
Fire Department was back in service
by 10pm.
Winter
moved in overnight Tuesday, as the
West Chazy Fire Dept responded to numerous
calls through out the village beginning at
8pm. Trees and
power lines fell down across numerous
roads. Ketchum Bridge road was shut down
to vehicle traffic for approx 1 hour after
power lines had fell there. The fisk road
had to be shut down due to a car that
slammed into a fallen tree across the
road. There were no serious
injuries.

Rollover 09/30/08
At approx 10 pm
the West Chazy Fire Dept responded to a 1
car Rollover on the Stratton Hill Road
just north of the Ashley road. The
Driver crossed over on the opposite side
of the road, off the shoulder, and into
the ditch. Patient who was outside of
vehicle walking on his own refused medical
treatment and to cooperate with State
Police and Sheriff's Deputies. Patient was
placed under arrest after a brief scuffle
and the Fire Dept was released. CVPH was
on scene but no fire apparatus was
needed.
At approx
7am The West Chazy Fire Dept
responded to a Car Vs Telephone Pole on
Route 22 and Sugarbush Drive. Trucks
331,333, and 334 responded along with personnel
to find a totaled Mitsubishi
eclipse that had severed a Chazy and
Wesport telephone pole in half. Patient
inside the vehicle took off on foot and
was not able to be found by Fire Dept Personnel.
Traffic was rerouted for several hours
while Rust Away Towing flipped vehicle
from roof and to clear wires in the road
way . The Fire Dept was back in service
around 10am.
CHAZY -- The Gray
family of 2016 Miner Farm Road has been
temporarily displaced by a fire in their
home Sunday evening.
"It looks
like it started in a children's bedroom,
possible cause is electrical," said
Chazy Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Cahoon.
Firefighters from
the West Chazy Volunteer Fire Department
and Rescue Hose 5 assisted the Chazy
department in keeping the fire contained
to the bedroom.
Only smoke damage
affected the rest of the home, owned by
Adrian Dutil and rented by the Gray
family.
While there were
no injuries, a few people were checked out
at the scene for shock, Cahoon said.

West Chazy Fire Dept
responded to a 2 car MVA at approx 9:30pm on
State Route 22 in
West Chazy. . Chazy-based State Police
reported William Sebert, 45, of 30 Mill St.,
Champlain, collided with Jason Garrand, 28,
of Altona, on Route 22 in the Town of Mooers
at about 9:50 p.m.During the investigation,
Sebert was allegedly determined to be
intoxicated. He was charged with a felony
due to a previous DWI conviction in April of
2005. 2 people
of the second vehicle were transported to
CVPH with non life threaten injuries for
evaluation

dispatched as Mutual Aid to Beekmantown
for a Brush Fire on the Laplante Road.
Tanker 336 with Brush Truck 335 and
Squad 334 responded.
