Hurricane Irene 2011

West Chazy, NY - Members of the West Chazy Fire Department spent Sunday afternoon, evening and all day Monday battling the effects of Hurricane Irene as it pounded Eastern NY. Many roads in the Town of Chazy were flooded while trees and power lines came crashing to the ground. WCFD firefighters worked with 4 three man crews directing traffic around flooded areas, pumping basements of homeowners, cutting up tree limbs blocking roads and checking on area residents that were in need of assistance. As calls came in to our command center they were prioritized and handled. During the evening members also had to come to the rescue of a trapped homeowner and individuals trapped in there vehicles. As of Tuesday Power was slowly being restored to storm-tossed Essex and Clinton counties. Monday night, New York State Electric & Gas had 4,509 Essex County customers without electricity; that number on Tuesday morning was 3,175. In Clinton County, the number of those still in the dark dropped from 10,145 Monday night to 8,170 Tuesday. Below are a few pictures and videos taking during the storm.
